CBD Oil and Menopause

Women all over the world have so many things in common, but one of the most life-altering events shared by so many is, of course, the changes our bodies go through due to menopause. For some, the transition is easier than others.

For those of us who do struggle trying to manage the symptoms of pre-menopause, perimenopause and the actual menopause itself, CBD Oil is rapidly growing in popularity as the go-to solution to assist in managing so many different aspects of this unavoidable change.
As the body goes through the extreme changes brought on by the decline of the hormones estrogen and progesterone, symptoms that many women suffer become a daily occurrence, instead of a monthly menstruation.

• Weight gain
• Insomnia,
• Anxiety,
• Mood Swings
• Hot Flashes

…are just a few of the common symptoms. Pharmaceuticals are used to treat these generally, but there are other options available.

CBD oil can assist the body by binding to the sites where there are estrogen deficiencies, essentially taking place of the estrogen and helping to regulate symptoms associated with menopause.

This is possible because CBD binds directly to the receptors of what is called our endocannabinoid system, which are found in the brain, organs and other body tissues.

Just like we have receptors for estrogen, we also have receptors for natural cannabinoids associated with our endocannabinoid system. These are cannabis-like cannabinoids that are internally manufactured by our own body. And we do know that this system specifically is strongly associated with the long list of symptoms brought on with menopause.

A woman’s reproductive system contains a quite a large contingent of cannabinoid receptors, and as oestrogen decreases (being the main hormone of this system), the results are the symptoms of menopause because the endocannabinoid system cannot maintain its efficiency.

This is where ingesting CBD from a plant-based source assists the endocannabinoid system and can make up the difference caused by lowered hormones, reducing these symptoms, in many cases, quite dramatically.

When we look at the most common of the negative symptoms of menopause, science is learning more about how CBD works to support us through these changes:

• Hot Flashes – Caused by the decline in the hormone anandamide, which regulates our body temperature. Science knows that THC can also regulate our body temperature, so by extracting the CBD oil, it may actually increase the anandamide being produced. Because of this the body will be able to regulate temperature better and reduce hot flashes.

• Anxiety & Mood Swings – Estrogen is used in the endocannabinoid system to regulate emotional responses as well as our moods, so when hormones decline, we see increases in these symptoms. CBD oil has shown strong positive results here by mitigating these symptoms because it is a known mood enhancer and decreases anxiety, calming knee-jerk emotional responses we can’t seem to control.

• Insomnia – in many cases the suffering of hot flashes throughout the night and/or the anxiety of a busy mind are the causes of a disturbed sleep. Lack of rest takes its toll both mentally and physically. As mentioned above, CBD Oil can help with the hot flashes by helping the body regulate temperature. And secondly, the reduction in anxiety levels will allow for a better sleep.

• Bone Density – So as estrogen declines something called osteoclasts increase leading to the result of lower bone density and a higher opportunity for bone fractures. These osteoclasts contain receptors called GPR55 receptors.

These are known to stimulate bone cells to break down, decreasing bone density. Research with CBD and these receptors has been very positive. The CBD oil interacts with the GPR55 receptors, inhibiting the declining effects of bone density loss.

Science is continually learning about the growing list of benefits connected to the use of CBD oil. When it comes to menopause and effective treatments, many users believe it to be more effective in treating the above symptom (and so many more) AND has the ability to be a long-term solution, being able to use it indefinitely, unlike hormone replacement therapy.

You can start to feel the benefits of using CBD oil for your symptoms as soon as you’re ready. It doesn’t matter at what point in your journey that you’re on. Whether you’re pre-menopausal, right in the middle of it all, or post menopausal, you will get results.

Today there are a number of different CBD oil-based products to choose from. Tinctures, edibles, drinks and even creams and lotions. Which ever way a person chooses to go, it always best to remember to take it slow in order to find the most effective dose for you.

CBD products are legal in most states, but not all. Please check your state’s laws to confirm. As well if you intend to travel, be sure to check the laws of the state(s) you’ll be traveling through and to.
